Valentines necklace

Last week while hanging out with my nieces we decided to make some very pretty valentines necklaces. I had first seen the idea at eighteen 25 and knew that these two crafty gals would love to do a project like that.   

We started off by painting the different size beads.  Once they were dry my oldest niece decided she wanted to be a little more creative and add some designs to her beads so she did some poka dots, hearts and lines on her beads. 

After they dried we strung the beads onto pretty ribbion and ta-da craft complete and you got yourself an awesome valentines accessory.

Here is a picture of Emma's which is so sweet with all the different designs.  So get out some paint and get creative cause this valentines day we will be wearing our own accessories!

Valentine snow globe

This project was so much fun to do.....NOT!  Some times things look really great on pinterest and then when you try to do them they just don't turn out the same way.  Actually this one turned out nice and is still nice and clear and looks like a snow globe.  The ones the little girls made with a TON of glitter were all foggy and didn't turn out great at all.  So the trick to this was using the right kind of glitter.  You need a tinsel glitter and be careful not to use too much of it. 

So here is what you need.  Below are only a few of the items.

Baby jar

Paint and brushes

Styrofoam ball

glue gun

pipe cleaner

glycerin

water

tinsel glitter

First paint the jar lid any color you would like.  And let dry completely that is also important cause the paint will just come off if its not dry when you are trying to get the lid back on.  Next make a heart with your pipe cleaner.  Cut the styrofoam balls in half and shape to fit inside of the lid.   This is also an important step cause if you don't the heart will not fit inside the jar (you might want to test it before you put the water in the jar) and the lid will not close properly which will equal a huge mess!!!    When the styrofoam ball fits properly you can stick the pipe cleaner through the styrofoam and hot glue it onto the lid.  Next fill your jar up with water adding 1 tsp of glycerin and 1 tsp of glitter.  Next put the lid on the jar and secure tightly and there you have it your pretty snow globe!  

Simple sugar cookies

Now what would LOVE month be if you didn't have any heart shaped cookies to give out?  One thing about having a love day is not just for all the pretty decorations and awesome treats we get to enjoy but for us it has been a great month to spend time talking with Eben about love.  How to love and what does to love God and our neighbours mean.   It has been a fun teaching month and part of that comes with these little goodies.  The are a basic sugar cookie that make a lot of cookies.  We frosted them up and now they are ready to give out to our neighbours to show them love.  

You can find the recipe for the sugar cookies here at All recipes.  Being a little bit of a health nut I did mix in some whole wheat flour to the dough.  Since it calls for 5 cups of flour I figured 2 of the them should be whole wheat!  So after dumping all the ingredients into my awesome kitchen aid mixer that I got for Christmas.  We let the dough chill in the fridge before we rolled it out and cut out heart shapes.  

Once baked and cooled we put this frosting on them. I used this recipe  but again cause I am not using corn syrup any more I looked up what I could substitute it with and if its light corn syrup you can use honey.  So that is what I did instead and it turned out great.

Now all that is left to do is bag them up, bundle up the two cute kids and deliver them to the neighbours on our street.

Frame it

Framing pictures of you and your sweetheart is such a simple way to decorate for LOVE month.  I started off by printing off this printable then putting it in a pretty black frame which I already had around the house.   Next I added a couple pictures of me and my hottie husband along with this very glittery LOVE decoration which was purchased at the dollar store.

The xoxo blocks were made by me last year.  They are 2*2 cubes that hubby cut out for me a while back.  I love having a bag of blogs in the craft room for projects like these Christmas blocks and these baby block gifts.   They were simple enough to make just paint, ink the edges with pink or red ink and add valentines puffy stickers to them.

valentines center piece

Here is a quick decoration to use as a center piece on the table.  All you need is a nice vase, dowl, scallop punch, circle, love stamp and ribbon.  Oh and some beads which are just a pearl necklace of mine that broke.

Here is how I put this together.  I actually had the "love" part done from something I put together last Valentines day.  So take your scallop and add your circle stamped with love.  Using high tech scotch tape attach it to the dowl (which you can buy a whole bag at the dollar store), place dowl into pretty vase that has some beads (also purchased at dollar store) in the bottom and add some ribbon.  Ta-da all done and its a beautiful center piece.   Oh and can you see my pretty heart garland hanging up in the back!!

Valentines scrapbook layout

Here is a very simple way to decorate for the holidays.  I really love using my hobby of scrap booking to use as decorations around the house and you can read all about that here.   So here is one layout I am putting up for LOVE month.  These pictures were taken of the kids last winter during a snow day.  They were having "scuddle" time.  Scuddle is a word we invented around the our house.  Its a a whole lot of squeezing and cuddling at the same time.

So get out some heart paper and black a white photos and great creative.  Its such a cheap way to add a little love to the house durning this month. And don't forget to follow my LOVE board for more creative valentines ideas!

heart garland

Welcome February 1st.  The first day of LOVE month!!! 

 I love Valentines day cause I love all the colors, hearts, decorations and of course TREATS!!!  And this year Pinterest isn't helping my small love addiction since there are so many ideas on there.    I won't try them all because I don't really want to gain 20 lb in the next two weeks eating too many goodies but I will share with you decoration ideas, special meal ideas, lots of heart shaped ideas and of course a few treats to try.   So why not follow my LOVE month board and get creative with me. 

So lets start the month off with a heart garland to put up around the house.  This is a good activity for kids and since its a snow day today here in our neck of the woods it might be a good craft to keep the kids busy for an hour or so. 

First start off with some different colors of card stock paper.  If you don't have any colored card stock you could get the kids to paint white paper the colors you would and then cut that into strips. 

I cut some strips 1/2" and some 3/4".  Once you have a strip (I am so bad at not taking pictures of the whole process but if you want a better understand pop over here; where I originally found the idea) fold them in half and bend the two ends into the center to form a heart shape.  Using a stapler (and colored staples) staple the heart together. 

When all the hearts are made simply string a needle and thread, I used a pink colored embroiders floss, and thread through one half of the heart like this. 

Then hang!  I hung this in the corner of the kitchen.  It was so easy to make and didn't take much time at all so I think I will do a few more to put up around the house.
